RUN 90 THE COLOURS
OF HASHING (HOLI)
Hare:

Co Hare: Uncle
Charles
Run Site:
Lagong (The Land of Leeches)
The 27th of
May was a beautiful Sunday morning at Lagong, the site of
last month’s Junior Hash Run which carried the theme Holi.
Hash mothers were there as early as 8.30 in the morning preparing
breakfast, lunch, coloured water and water guns which were to be used after
the run.
By 9.30am at least 40
junior hashers has assembled by the road that ran alongside the
shallow river at the run site. After
a quick briefing by Uncle Charles, the Junior Hash Convenor, the run
officially began.
The paper-trail took us up and down
beautiful hills and streams lush with vegetation and noisy with the sounds
of hashers busily running through the pristine environment.
As we progressed, the trail took us through an orchard filled with
durian trees after which we reached the road and took us back to the run
site.
At the run site, we were greeted
with the wonderful smells of fried chips, crab balls, prawns, grilled fish,
onion rings, nasi lemak, nuggets, idli and much more, courtesy of Aunty
Latha’s Kitchen and the mom’s who stayed behind to prepare the feast.
Meanwhile, hashers who had eaten
their fill then made their way to the water “equipped” with a few bottles of
coloured water and water guns each to participate in the Battle of Colours.
After an hour or so, many hashers
who had worked up an appetite (again!) sat down to seconds while others
remained to “hold the front” while the “troops reloaded”.
Heavy rain later in the afternoon
did nothing to dampen the spirits of the young and feisty hashers (not to
mention the old!). The troops called
for a cease fire and agreed to hold positions as Uncle Charles called for
the Cirle.
After making introductions and
dealing with all the “Naughty Hashers”, the Circle, during which our dear
Convenor was put on ice for wearing two pairs of shorts during the run, was
adjourned. Hashers then continued
eating, laughing, playing and having the time of their lives till about
3.30pm. On! On!
Those who have missed the run,
don’t feel sad. See you
next run!
